Deadly Hegang Blast Kills 87 and Counting

In the most lethal explosion in two years, fatalities at the coal mine explosion in Hegang, China has soared to 87, soon to hit the 100-mark. “The pre-dawn blast Saturday at the state-run Xinxing mine in Heilongjiang (pronounced HAY-long-jeeahng) province near the border with Russia was the latest to hit China's mining industry — the world's deadliest,” reports Cara Anna of the Associated Press. “Authorities say safety was improving, but hundreds still die in major accidents each year.” Watch special video "Coal Mine Training" Read more.
