Rammasun Morning Meditation and "The Secret" Movie

Huggybear's Stories
September 27 to
October 3 Edition

Typhoon Rammasun, known here in the Philippines as Glenda, is mercilessly pummeling almost the entire island of Luzon where Metro Manila is. I'm in the Visayas region, all the way across the sea, but it's raining here too. Glenda is like a super storm. All school levels in both are closed. I'm tuned in to the radio, monitoring the live reports across the country while waiting for sleep after working the entire night. Titanic waves are sprouting over Manila Bay, lashing down at Baywalk, the stretch of sea-side road in Roxas Boulevard in Manila which is one of my favorite places in this country.

Typhoon Rammasun Batters Central Philippines

I hope the storm is not as devastating as Haian, known locally as Yolanda, which earlier this year has virtually destroyed Tacloban town in Leyte, just across the bay from Cebu where I'm now. Leyte was my last stop before landing here last year. It's Signal Number 3 in the storm-prone Bicol Region, the tip of Luzon island where I took the ship.

I hear Rey Langit loud and clear. It's good to hear that the broadcast icon is still on the air. I recognize his voice loud and clear. His co-anchor is Alex Santos who used to be a field reporter from DZMM-Teleradyo, the radio-TV program of ABS-CBN which I always listen to when I was still in Metro Manila. It turns out I'm tuned in to DWIZ, the first Tagalog station I found when I twidled the dial. The people who own it also publishes the weekly magazine Philippine Graphic and the daily newspaper BusinessMirror, where a lot of my fiction stories, poetry and Op-Ed articles have appeared.

I've been in deep introspection in the past few days. There are things that happened which I wish had not. They were beyond my control. It stands to reason that an outside force is the causative factor. I believe in the Law of Attraction, taught by the highly evolved entity Seth channeled by medium Jane Roberts.

Seth's Suggested Prime Belief

That was decades even before Rhonda Byrne stumbled upon "The Secret." Maybe the creative energy, the same power that governs the universe, got filtered through some lingering negative patterns in my mind. I definitely need to do some heavy duty mental housecleaning.

At the same time, I also believe that we've already drawn the blueprint for our current lifetime even before we were born. The idea has been clarified for me by the psychic Sylvia Brown in her book Phenomenon: Everything You Need to Know About The Paranormal, which I bought in BookSale in Robinson's in front of Fuente OsmeƱa earlier this year. Our goal is for the soul to be purged and purified to perfection so we can all go back to the One Source of All That Is. Sylvia calls it "Home."

It's like choosing our college subjects to get our degree. We are here to study, metaphorically and metaphysically - and to graduate to achieve a higher degree. I think there's no conflict between destiny and free will. We create our own destiny through our choices. It is our actions in the "present" that creates our "future," on that level of reality where linear time does not exist.

I was enlightened by a book a friend has lent to me years ago. My cosmic view expanded because of the author's pond analogy. Imagine you're standing at the edge of a pond. You throw a pebble into the water. It creates ripples. Those little circle of waves extend outward until they reach you. Therefore, you are destined to get your feet wet. It's raining hard outside. Typhoon Glenda is still on a rampage. If I choose to go outside, then I'm bound to get wet and not just my feet. That is destiny. That is also free will. This is what I believe to be true, and truth is always simple and elegant. Personally though, I'd rather stay warm and cozy in bed.

Do You Want To Be Somebody Else?

Huggybear's Stories
September 13-19 Edition

July 7, 2014
Monday

Somebody told me he wanted to be like me. He meant someone who has an air of mystery and has traveled to a lot of places. I look at people, I told him, and I try to emulate that things I see that are good and practical to me. But, I made it clear, I don't ever want to be somebody else. I am who I am and I'm not who I'm not, and that's fine with me. I like it that way. That works for me.

Friday

This is going to be one of my best weekend ever.

We can all go home because it's the Fourth of July. a holiday in the U.S. where the clients are based.  All we did to do is to sign in for attendance. Here's the catch: we have to sign out in the morning. I asked what if I don't. Nobody knew. I watched Oblivion on HBO on the pantry first, wanting to rush home but wanting to avoid the elevator crowd. I haven't even known about this movie. There's Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman and a girl who looks like Joseph Gordon Levitt. There's a scene where the flying battle droids have invaded their camp.

Oblivion

It made me think of how we let people into our life and how they affect us from within. In my mind is the idea of an inner sanctuary. It is only for myself and me alone, inviolable and inpenetrable. It is my own holy of holies. My own fortress of solitude. I will be on my own in a place that is truly my own.

A Special Moment

Huggybear's Stories
September 6-12 Edition

A Special Moment

July 6, 2014
Sunday

I looked out the window as the rain fell last Saturday. The night breeze was coming in through the jalousie glass blinds.

I was in our room, sitting in the dark. I tried to write down some the things that are running around my mind.

In between thoughts,  I took note of some of the songs from the radio. I want to make that moment special. This is where I'll make that special moment last forever.

One of my top favorite Filipino songs in Tagalog is Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang, the original by Ogie Alcasid. It will always be special to me.

"Sana'y nalaman ko na darating ka sa buhay ko, 'di sana'y naghintay ako..."

But I can't relate to it anymore because I now found the one person for whom I'll give the rest of my life.  I know I’ll never love this way again.

I think of Kenny Rogers' Through The Years as special because it calls to mind my true and loyal friends.

Friendship is important to me. I still keep in touch with most of them, those are still living. We have been there for each other through thick and thin, through the good and bad times, through the test of time.

"Through the years, you've never let me down, you turned my life around, the sweetest days I've found, I've found with you..."

There was a touching moment in a Bee Gees concert I saw on DVD some years back. A slideshow of the late Andy Gibb played as his brothers performed Don't Throw It All Away. I've been hearing this haunting song since I started listening to music when I was still a kid.

I tend to think of the 70s "Manila Sound" group VST & Co., the local version of the Bee Gees, with Vic Sotto and Spanky Rigor doing their own falsetto disco hits and unforgettable ballads.

"You alone are the living thing that keeps me alive, and tomorrow if I'm here without your love, you know I can't survive..."

Our Love (Don't Throw It All Away)

I like the melody and the musical arrangement of Saving The Best For Last by Vanessa Williams. It reminds me of my teenage years when this song came out in the early nineties.

I like the sarcastic irony when the boy shares his dreams to one girl but gives his love to another. What inspires me is the idea that when it seems that the last chance has passed, the best is yet to come.

"Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last..."

Saving The Best For Last
Vanessa Williams

The next is one of those rare songs to which I don't know the title nor the artist. I grew up in a musical family and I've been playing the guitar since I was a kid. I would take those vintage editions of Jingle Magazine to study the chords. That's how I got to know the singers of the songs that would be part of the soundtrack of my life.

"When love moons disappear forever, and the sun shines electric blue," goes this song. If I figure it out, the video will appear on my blog. "And the mountains and trees falling into the sea, to rest there for eternity, no matter what you do, I would still love you..."

I Will Still Love You
Stonebolt

One of the saddest songs I ever heard is I've Never Been To Me by Charlene Duncan. This is the story of a woman sharing her life and revealing her inmost feelings. She has been to glamorous places and gone through exhilarating experiences unlike many of us. Through it all flows the stream of loneliness and alienation. In the end, there is only regret and a sense of emptiness.

"Sometimes I've been to crying for unborn children that might have made me complete, but I took the sweet life and never knew I'd be bitter from the sweet..."
