Monte Cristo (8) and My Own Fortress of Solitude (1)

Saturday Stories
September 26 Edition

The Cathedral of Monte Cristo

Episode 8

The Cathedral of Monte Cristo was empty. A large stone edifice on a hill overlooking the village like an idol, it evoked visions of Spaniards, horse-drawn carriages and ancient souls. Even the pavement outside was cobbled, mute witness to the footsteps of time.

On a large cross on the altar, a life-size statue of the Son of Man gazed across the empty pews with an air of unfathomable sadness, for the redemption of souls is but a myth. The only illumination in this forbidding place was candelabras discreetly placed in recessed corners.

The darkness seemed to have a life of its own: an amorphous entity, breathing, as if in anticipation for a primitive ritual.

My Own Fortress of Solitude

Episode 1

May 14, 2015, Thursday

Superman and Jor-el. Ironman and Jarvis. Judge Dredd and Central. Luke Skywalker and The Force. The "Boy who saw True" and Elder Brother.

For the past weeks I've been reading books and watching videos about them. They are all connected to a source of knowledge that transcends time and space. I do too.

"I need advice," I told my Higher Self.

"What you need is clarity," he said.

"How do I get it?"

"Reach into your inner sanctum."

Monte Cristo 7 and Going To The Moon

Saturday Stories
September 19 Edition

The Cathedral of Monte Cristo

Episode 7

"Well?" asked the boy.

"Truth is," Tonying said sheepishly, “it…burned down last…But everyone will tell you it was an accident!

“What about the man who was living there?”

"No one has seen him yet!"

"But he has a servant, a hunchback, who goes to town for supplies," said Andong. “His corpse has been found. There was only one.”

"Crisostomo, I think you should know," said Benjamin. "One of the young men that's been found drained of blood…"

Crisostomo looked away at the distant mountains, feeling a stab of pain, knowing already what his uncle was about to say.

"What about it?" he managed to say.

"That was Agapito," Benjamin sighed. "Your childhood friend..."

Going To The Moon

March 21, 2015, Saturday

If I were to live in the moon, I would welcome the silence and my soul would find strength in solitude.

I'm talking about the side always facing the earth. The moon does not rotate so a lot of astronomers are not even aware of the nonhuman civilization on the other side. The clairvoyant Ingo Swann and some of the other psychics from the U.S. and Russian intelligence agencies had seen those sentient beings.

I was asked by a friend about what book will I bring if I were stuck in the moon. On my short list is Far Journeys, Robert Monroe's memoir about his out-of-body experiences. I found a rare copy of that classic by some intuitive flash earlier this week. I've already read it twice in the last three days.

Then I asked my friend a question: what you do if you had no book, no DVD, no games and no Internet?  He seemed shocked. I guess most people cannot even imagine life without outside stimulus. They would have no "fun."

Monte Cristo 6 and The Return of The Dead

Saturday Stories
September 12 Edition

The Cathedral of Monte Cristo

Episode 6

"You know, Ka Benjamin," said Andong, another farmer, "just like I told the captain, these killings and disappearances started when somebody came to live in the old mansion on the hill."

"I noticed that too," nodded Uncle Benjamin, washing his hands at the coconut bowl filled with water.

"The so-called haunted house?" asked Crisostomo, sounding confused. "Nobody has lived there as far as I can remember!"

"Nobody has lived there for centuries!" said Andong. "A father massacred his entire family there, and then he hanged himself! Why, my grandmother herself, God bless her soul, told me that the house is cursed!"

"Who is living there, anyhow?" asked Crisostomo.

Nobody answered. They all seem to avoid looking at him.

The Return of The Dead

April 28, 2015, Tuesday

The knife was sharp as evil. A man lures a teenage boy into his motor home. He ties the boy down on the table and strips him naked. Then he skillfully dissects him like a surgeon. All the while, the boy was still alive.

I returned John Saul's Black Lightning to a friend I'll call Escobal who lent it last week. I was the detective investigating the murders in my mental movie version. The man is arrested and becomes a celebrity. He swears vengeance on the journalist who brought him down. He is executed amidst the media circus .

Everybody saw him die on the electric chair. The journalist's husband suddenly dies at the exact same time. Two men died. Only one was revived.

But both came back from the dead.

Monte Cristo 5 and The Secret 2

Saturday Stories
September 5-11

The Cathedral of Monte Cristo

Episode 5

"But Uncle Benjamin!" said Crisostomo. "Don't tell me you believe in vampires?"

They were having lunch in the middle of the rice fields under a large mango tree, the food spread on banana leaves on a makeshift table, an idyllic rural scene straight from an Amorsolo painting.

"Nephew, three people have already been found dead!" said Benjamin, one of the farmers. "There were bite marks on their necks and they were completely drained of blood!"

"And not only that, Crisostomo," said Tonying, another farmer. "There are also five people missing, including the thirteen-year old son of the village captain!"

Huggybear Diaries

The Secret (2)

April 28, 2015, Tuesday

The most important thing is to feel good. Your feelings attract everything that happens to you.

Her sister has manifested her dream car when somebody offered it to her for a price she could afford. The sister was very generous and money just flows into her life, she told me. She said the law of attraction worked for her because she doesn't worry about money like she used to.

Me, I said, I don't even worry at all. If you focus too much on wanting to have what you want, the universe responds to the vibration of not having it, I said. Where your focus goes, that's where the energy flows.
