Manila – the operation on former President Corazon Aquino was successful and all cancerous areas of her colon had been removed. Aquino, 76, underwent laparascopic colectomy – a minimally invasive procedure where specialized surgical tools are inserted in less 1-cm incisions – performed by Doctors Catherine Teh and Joel Leroy at the Makati Medical Center. The operation began at noon of May 4 and by 2 pm, she was already conscious and alert, reported the Philippine Daily Inquirer. The first thing she did, her daughter TV-movie personality Kris Aquino told ABS-CBN, was to pray, clutching a rosary given her by Sr. Lucia of Fatima. The next 72 hours are critical for possible risk infections but her doctors are optimistic.
