Are You In A Friendly Universe?

The title is inspired by one of the many talks given by the spiritual teacher Wayne Dyer. I think it is perfect.

I've been going around town today to give away my stuff. I gave another batch of my clothes to the Red Cross. I donated most of my books to the Cebu City Public Library, also on Jones Avenue, leaving them to the security guard because it's closed.

I'm moving into a new house, same rent and nearer to where I work, about as big as a telephone booth. I texted a friend who lives near but she's in Mindanao. She asked if the place was safe.

"I'm safe everywhere," I told her. "No harm can ever touch me." My guardian angel has made his presence felt many times. I live in a loving and supportive universe.

How Will You Die?

 How Will You Die?

The mother of a friend of mine suffered a stroke last night. She is now still at the intensive care unit.

"That is the worst feeling in the world," I said to him earlier. "When you see someone you love suffer, and you can't do anything about it. You feel so helpless."

That is my worst nightmare. My parents, my grandmother, my foster father, my first best friend and childhood buddy, my second best friend, they all died in a hospital.

Personally, I'm not afraid of death. I just don't want a slow and agonizing end. I would rather die than suffer. It sounds cool to leave this life in a blaze of glory. But I what I want is to die in the same way that I try to live my life: with peace and inner strength.

In the end, we really don't know what will happen or what we are going to do. It calls to mind the song "No Day But Today" from Rent, one of my all-time favorite movies.

"Will I lose my dignity? Will someone care...?"

Living In The Moment

Living In The Moment

One moment I was in my workstation and the next I was gone. I quickly got out of the office at my shift's end at four in the morning on the dot.

But I was not rushing. The paradox was my awareness of my every action.

I glided smoothly as my breath drew in the prana in the and into the solar plexus, tripping to the music of Sergio Mendes, Stanley Clark and George Duke.

I felt even more centered as I watched Marlon Brando in On The Waterfront by Elia Kazan. I'm endlessly fascinated by the way his every gesture show how he is absolutely in the present. Every small gesture seems to express some nuance.

The Cathedral of Monte Cristo (Episode 24)

The Cathedral of Monte Cristo

Episode 24

Alfonzo was walking in Avenida. It was 8:05 PM. A big stereo in store selling smuggled appliances was playing “Stay” by Cueshe. He stopped at the glass window. He had no reflection. “Hmm.” he said. He went into the street.

The LRT rumbled above. Watching its passage, he thought: So many changes.

“Hello!” greeted Sharona, materializing out of thin air.

“Hi!” Alfonzo replied. The natives are friendly, he thought.

“Well?”

“I am well.”

“You want?”

“Why don’t you say it out loud?”

“You know!”

“I know everything.”

I believe a meaningful life starts and ends with the attitude of gratitude.

I have so many blessings that I lost count, from true and loyal friends who have stood the test of time, to the sense of blessed completeness for having finally found the love of a lifetime.
